Thiruvananthapuram: Fifteen cases of Shigella infection have been confirmed in Kerala, with cases reported from Kozhikode, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kollam districts. Kozhikode has recorded the highest number of confirmed cases, with eight people testing positive for the infection. Authorities have also reported six deaths linked to the disease.
Health officials said that 11 individuals who were on the contact list of the Nipah patient have been removed from observation after completing the monitoring period.
This year, the highest number of Shigella cases has been reported from Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram districts. Kozhikode alone has recorded 57 cases, while Wayanad has reported 22 cases. At present, one case has been reported in Thrissur and three cases in Alappuzha.
Meanwhile, the Nipah patient continues to remain on ventilator support at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, where treatment is ongoing.
