Pune, Jun 3: Police on Wednesday claimed to have busted an illegal prenatal sex determination racket operating in Daund tehsil of Pune district, arresting two persons, including an Ayurvedic doctor, officials said.
Investigators are now working to uncover the wider referral network linked to the operation and are also probing suspected cases involving the abortion of female foetuses.
According to officials, the prime accused, who is educated up to Class 12, allegedly used a portable Chinese-made ultrasound device connected to a mobile application to determine the sex of foetuses illegally.
The racket came to light after a video clip allegedly showing illegal sex determination activities surfaced on social media. Following the circulation of the footage, health authorities lodged a complaint, prompting a police investigation.
Authorities said further inquiries are underway to identify others involved in the network and determine the extent of the illegal activities.
