Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Killing Parents in Thrissur

A court in Thrissur has sentenced a 50-year-old man to life imprisonment for murdering his elderly parents after accusing them of being responsible for his wife leaving him.

The convict, Pradeep, a native of Ezhukampani in Avinissery Village, was also fined ₹1 lakh by the Thrissur Second Additional Sessions Court. The judgment was delivered by Judge Jaya Prabhu. In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo one more year of rigorous imprisonment.

The incident took place on September 7, 2021, at their residence in Ezhukampani. Pradeep murdered his father Ramakrishnan (85) and mother Thankamani (75) by attacking them with an iron rod. The accused had been living with his parents.

During the trial, the prosecution examined 31 witnesses and produced 52 documents as evidence. Although the first witness, a relative of the accused who was present at the scene, turned hostile, the prosecution succeeded in proving the case through witness statements, circumstantial evidence and chemical examination reports.

Accepting the prosecution’s argument that the accused did not deserve any leniency for brutally killing his parents, the court awarded life imprisonment.

The investigation was carried out by former Peramangalam Circle Inspector V. Ashok Kumar and former Nedupuzha Circle Inspector T. G. Dileep. Senior Civil Police Officer Sangeeth M. D. coordinated the prosecution procedures.

The prosecution was represented by Additional Public Prosecutor K. N. Cinemol.
