The opposition BJD party on Friday alleged that the BJP is reluctant to implement women’s reservation in legislatures without increasing the number of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
The statement came a day after the Odisha Assembly passed a motion seeking early implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act, also known as the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, following an extensive debate during a special session.
The session was convened shortly after a Constitution Amendment Bill proposing 33 per cent reservation for women and an increase in Lok Sabha seats was defeated in Parliament.
The BJD claimed that the BJP’s stance is delaying the rollout of women’s quota, while reiterating its demand for early implementation of the law.
