A Thrissur court has sentenced two accused to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of Vincent, a resident of Keltron Colony in Killannur village.
The First Additional District and Sessions Court judge K. Kamanis sentenced life imprisonment and a fine of 3 lakh rupees each to the first and second accused — Sijo alias Kuyilan Sijo (37) of Ollur Padavarad and Nishanth (39) of Edakkunni. Two other accused, Satheesh (41) and Anoop alias Akhil (34), were sentenced to one year of imprisonment and fined 10,000 rupees each.
The incident occurred on May 26, 2013, around 8.45 pm at Keltron Colony. According to the prosecution, the accused had barged into Vincent’s house with the intention of abducting his son Vibin due to previous enmity linked to a bail bond issue. When Vincent, along with his wife and daughter, tried to prevent the abduction, he was stabbed to death by the first accused.
The case was registered by the Viyyur police, and the investigation was led by Inspector P.C. Bijukumar. During the trial, the prosecution examined 30 witnesses and produced 48 documents and 25 material objects as evidence.
The court considered the criminal background of the prime accused and the rising incidents of gang violence while awarding the sentence. The prosecution was led by District Public Prosecutor K.P. Ajayakumar and Advocate Rajeev.
