In the wake of the explosion at Mundathikode in Thrissur during fireworks manufacturing for the Thrissur Pooram, the organisers of the Puthuppally church festival have decided to cancel the fireworks display.
The organising committee announced that the decision was taken considering safety concerns and as a mark of respect for the victims of the tragedy, which claimed several lives and left many others seriously injured.
Orthodox Church head Baselios Marthoma Mathews III stated that avoiding fireworks was necessary in light of the recent disaster and to express solidarity with those affected.
Authorities clarified that all other religious rituals and celebrations associated with the festival will proceed as scheduled. However, fireworks and similar high-risk activities have been excluded to prevent any potential accidents.
Reports indicate that, following the Mundathikode incident, several temples and churches across the state are either cancelling or limiting fireworks displays as a precautionary measure.
