Renowned Photographer Raghu Rai Passes Away at 83

Celebrated Indian photographer Raghu Rai passed away in the early hours of Sunday at a private hospital in New Delhi after a prolonged illness. He was 83.

Raghu Rai, widely regarded as one of India’s most influential photographers, was known for capturing the country’s diverse realities through his lens over several decades.

His son, photographer Nitin Rai, said that Raghu Rai had been battling cancer for the past two years. While he had initially recovered from prostate cancer and subsequent complications, the illness later spread to his brain, along with age-related health issues.

Raghu Rai is survived by his wife Gurmeet, son Nitin, and daughters Lagan, Avani, and Purvai.

His passing marks the end of an era in Indian photography, with his work leaving a lasting impact on visual storytelling in the country.
