Vice-President Inaugurates Conference on Tribal Development Through Technology

New Delhi: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday inaugurated a conference on “Transformation of Tribal Lives through Science and Technological Interventions” at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

The conference, organised by the Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with NECTAR and ITITI Doon Sanskriti School, focused on integrating modern science with traditional knowledge to empower tribal communities.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice-President said that development and preservation of culture are complementary, not contradictory. He highlighted that tribal communities, which make up about 9 per cent of India’s population, play a crucial role in preserving biodiversity and cultural heritage.

He also pointed to the potential of tribal regions in green economic development and praised their traditional skills in areas such as textiles and design.

Referring to the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047,” he emphasised the need to balance development with cultural preservation. He also highlighted government initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, connectivity, and livelihoods in tribal areas.

The Vice-President reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and the upliftment of tribal communities.
