Puducherry Records 86.92% Voter Turnout in Assembly Polls

Puducherry: The Union Territory of Puducherry witnessed a high voter turnout of 86.92 per cent in the Assembly elections held on Thursday, with polling largely remaining peaceful, officials said.

Barring a few minor incidents, voting was conducted smoothly across constituencies. Authorities noted that the final polling percentage could see a slight increase as the consolidation of votes was still underway.

The election saw a competitive political contest, with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) aiming to retain power in the Union Territory. Meanwhile, the opposition Indian National Congress-led alliance made strong efforts to regain control.

Adding to the political dynamics, actor-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), generated significant interest among voters, raising expectations about its electoral performance. Actor-director Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) is also in the fray, aiming to establish a stronger presence.

Officials described the overall polling process as orderly, with security arrangements in place to ensure a free and fair election. The results are awaited to determine whether the ruling alliance will retain power or if the opposition can stage a comeback.
