Amit Shah Unveils ‘Pragati’ and ‘Vikas’ as Mascots for India’s First Digital Census 2027

New Delhi: Amit Shah has officially launched the mascots Pragati and Vikas for the upcoming Census of India 2027, which will be conducted as India’s first fully digital census. The mascots represent female and male enumerators, symbolizing the equal participation of women and men in one of the country’s largest administrative exercises. The initiative aims to create public awareness and encourage nationwide participation as preparations gather pace for the landmark census.

The digital census will replace the traditional paper-based system with mobile and technology-driven data collection, making the process faster, more accurate, and transparent. Officials said the exercise will play a crucial role in gathering detailed demographic and socio-economic data needed for future policy planning and development programs. The government views the census as an important milestone as India moves toward its long-term vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
