New Delhi: The T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, has shattered all previous records by drawing an astonishing 500 million viewers worldwide — the highest viewership ever recorded in the tournament’s history. Announcing the milestone, International Cricket Council Chairman Jay Shah hailed it as a landmark moment for global cricket. The surge has been largely powered by the rapid expansion of digital streaming, significantly boosting the tournament’s global reach.
Streaming giant JioHotstar alone registered 60.5 million viewers, with the electrifying India–Pakistan clash setting a new benchmark for live digital viewership in World Cup history. With the semi-finals and final still to come, the numbers are expected to rise even further. South Africa will take on New Zealand in the first semi-final at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens, while India face England in the second semi-final at the legendary Wankhede Stadium — setting the stage for more high-octane drama in a record-breaking tournament.
