Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant and much-awaited move, the state government has increased the upper age limit for candidates applying for Public Service Commission (PSC) examinations, bringing major relief to thousands of job aspirants. The Cabinet has approved the recommendation to raise the maximum age limit for the General category from 36 to 40 years — a four-year increase that opens new doors for many hopeful candidates.
The decision follows the recommendations of the Justice J B Koshy Commission, which had proposed revising the age criteria to provide broader opportunities in government employment. With this change, candidates in the General category can now apply for PSC examinations up to the age of 40.
The age limit has also been proportionately increased for other categories. For OBC candidates, the upper age limit has been extended from 39 to 43 years. Meanwhile, candidates belonging to SC and ST categories can now apply up to 45 years of age.
The move comes at a crucial time, with the Assembly elections approaching, and is widely seen as a progressive step aimed at supporting youth and job seekers across the state. The revised age criteria is expected to benefit a large number of aspirants who had previously crossed the eligibility threshold, giving them renewed hope and opportunity in the public sector job market.
