Air India Orders Safety Checks on Boeing 787s After Fuel Switch Issue Reported

New Delhi: Air India has launched precautionary inspections of fuel control switches across its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet after a pilot reported a technical defect on an international flight earlier this month.

The issue was detected on February 2, when a pilot flagged a problem with the fuel control switch of a Boeing 787-8 aircraft after operating a flight from London Heathrow to Bengaluru. The matter was immediately escalated to the airline’s engineering and safety teams.

In response, Air India initiated fleet-wide checks as a preventive step, stressing that the move is part of its routine safety oversight. Airline sources said the inspections are being carried out in accordance with established aviation safety protocols, and that there has been no disruption to flight operations.

The fuel control switch plays a vital role in managing fuel flow to the aircraft’s engines. Air India has underlined that passenger safety remains its highest priority and that it is closely coordinating with Boeing and aviation regulators on the matter.

Further action will be taken based on the findings of the inspections, airline officials said, as Air India continues to operate its Dreamliner fleet on key long-haul international routes.
