Parliament’s Budget Session Begins Tomorrow; Government Calls All-Party Meet Today

The Budget Session of Parliament is set to begin tomorrow, with the Centre convening an all-party meeting today to build consensus and ensure the smooth conduct of proceedings. The meeting, scheduled for 11 am, will see the government seek cooperation from opposition parties ahead of what is expected to be a politically charged session.

The Budget Session will run from tomorrow until April 2. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to present the Union Budget on February 1. The first phase of the session will conclude on February 13.

The second phase of the session will begin on March 9. Meanwhile, the Congress has announced plans to step up protests against the Centre’s proposed new employment guarantee bill. In preparation, the party’s policy planning committee is set to meet later today to finalise its strategy for the session.

With key legislation and the annual Budget on the agenda, the coming weeks in Parliament are expected to witness intense debate and sharp political exchanges.
