Thodupuzha: Munnar has slipped back into biting cold after a brief lull, with temperatures plunging sharply in the high ranges. Chenduvara recorded a chilling low of just 1 degree Celsius in the early hours of Thursday, signalling the return of severe winter conditions.
The cold spell was also felt across nearby regions such as Silent Valley and Nallathanni, where temperatures dropped to around 3 degrees Celsius. As the mercury fell, frost blankets formed across vast stretches of grasslands, creating a stark winter landscape.
Earlier this season, Chenduvara had recorded its lowest temperature of minus 1 degree Celsius on December 13. Although temperatures had gradually risen in the days that followed, the sudden dip on Thursday indicates that the cold is far from over.
Weather officials say temperatures are likely to fall further in the coming days, raising concerns for residents, farmers, and tourists in the hill station.
