‘Delivery Partners Don’t Drive Fast’: Zomato Founder Deepinder Goyal Explains How 10-Minute Delivery Works

Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal has clarified concerns around Blinkit’s 10-minute delivery promise, stressing that the speed is achieved through better infrastructure and store density, not by forcing delivery partners to rush or drive unsafely.

Responding to questions and criticism about road safety, Goyal said delivery partners are not incentivised to overspeed. Instead, the ultra-fast delivery model works because Blinkit operates a dense network of small warehouses (dark stores) located very close to customers. This proximity significantly reduces the distance delivery partners need to travel.

According to Goyal, orders are processed quickly because items are already stocked nearby, enabling faster picking and packing. Technology-driven order allocation and efficient routing further reduce delivery time without putting pressure on riders to drive fast.

Goyal emphasised that safety remains a priority, and Blinkit does not encourage reckless riding or unrealistic delivery expectations. The 10-minute delivery, Goyal said, is a result of logistics optimisation, not human speed.

Blinkit’s rapid delivery model has drawn both praise and criticism, especially amid growing competition in India’s quick-commerce sector. Goyal’s remarks aim to reassure customers and regulators that speed does not come at the cost of delivery partners’ safety.
