Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has enforced a complete ban on liquor sales today in connection with the counting of votes for the recently held local body elections. All bars, BEVCO outlets and Consumerfed liquor shops across the state will remain closed as part of the strict dry day measures.
The prohibition applies statewide, with authorities making it clear that the sale or distribution of alcohol or similar intoxicants is not permitted in hotels, restaurants or in the vicinity of counting centres. Bars, liquor outlets, clubs and hotels serving alcohol have been directed to shut operations for the day.
Excise officials have also been instructed to ensure that liquor is not transported from areas without restrictions into prohibition zones, as the state steps up enforcement to maintain law and order during the crucial counting process.
