Cyclone Senyar, which developed over the Strait of Malacca, has crossed the Indonesian coast with fierce winds, prompting Indian meteorologists to issue alerts for intense rainfall across parts of South India in the coming days.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the storm system is expected to influence weather over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Puducherry, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The impact may include:
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall
- Thunderstorms and lightning
- Gusty winds and rough sea conditions
Fishermen have been advised to stay away from the sea as strong waves and squally winds are likely along the southeastern coastline.
The IMD has also warned that a fresh low-pressure area forming over the southwest Bay of Bengal could intensify the rain spell further, heightening the risk of waterlogging and disruptions in coastal and low-lying regions.
Authorities across southern states have urged residents to remain alert, follow official advisories, and avoid unnecessary travel as the weather may deteriorate over the next few days.
