Kerala Updates Rainfall Advisory: Yellow Alert in Four Districts as Heavy Showers Expected

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has updated its weather advisory with a Yellow Alert issued for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, and Kannur, signaling the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall across these regions. Heavy rain is defined as precipitation ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

The alert extends further in the coming days:

The Meteorological Department has also cautioned about strong winds and rough sea conditions over the Southwest Arabian Sea, South Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, and parts of Kanyakumari, where wind speeds may reach 35–45 km/h, surging up to 55 km/h at times.

Adding to the concerns, the Kallakkadal (swell wave) phenomenon is expected to impact coastal stretches of Kanyakumari district, from Neerodi to Arokiapuram, with high waves of 0.8 to 1.3 meters predicted between 11:30 PM today (Nov 14) and 11:30 PM tomorrow (Nov 15).

On November 15, high waves between 0.2 and 0.7 meters are forecast along the coasts of Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Kannur from 2:30 AM to 11:30 PM.

Authorities have urged fishermen and coastal residents to remain vigilant as sea incursions are possible in vulnerable areas.
