Alappuzha: Five medical students lost their lives in a devastating accident when their car collided with a KSRTC bus near Kayamkulam in Kerala. Two other students sustained critical injuries and are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
The incident occurred on the national highway at Changanassery Junction, where the students’ car, traveling at high speed, collided head-on with the bus. The impact left the car completely mangled, and the students had to be extricated by cutting through the wreckage.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the students, all first-year MBBS students from Vandanam Medical College, were returning from a trip. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, but police are looking into factors such as overspeeding and weather conditions, as heavy rains were reported in the area at the time.
The bus passengers also suffered minor injuries due to the impact. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, especially during adverse weather conditions, to prevent such tragedies
