A total of 5,765 wildlife sightings, including 42 tigers, were recorded during the annual ‘Machan Census on Waterholes’ at the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.
The exercise, conducted during peak summer when animals gather around water sources, aimed to assess wildlife presence across the reserve.
TATR Field Director Prabhu Nath Shukla said the data indicates a healthy ecosystem with a strong prey-predator balance in both core and buffer zones.
