₹5,000 Windfall for 1.31 Crore Women: Stalin Doubles Monthly Aid to ₹2,000 Under ‘Dravidian Model 2.0’

Chennai: In a sweeping welfare announcement that brought cheer to millions of households, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin credited ₹5,000 directly into the bank accounts of 1.31 crore women beneficiaries across the State today.

The surprise financial boost comes under the flagship Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, which provides monthly assistance to eligible women heads of families. Going a step further, Mr. Stalin announced that the monthly grant would be doubled from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 as part of the government’s next phase of welfare governance, branded as “Dravidian Model 2.0.”

Calling it a reaffirmation of the State’s commitment to women’s economic empowerment, the Chief Minister said the enhanced support would strengthen household finances and promote financial independence among women. Named in honour of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, the scheme has emerged as a cornerstone of Tamil Nadu’s social welfare architecture.

Officials confirmed that the direct benefit transfer was completed smoothly, ensuring timely credit to beneficiaries. The move is expected to have a far-reaching social impact, reinforcing the government’s welfare-first approach and its focus on inclusive growth.
