Kerala is all set to mark a major leap in women-centric public transport with the launch of the KSRTC Pink Bus, a service where both the crew and passengers are exclusively women. Designed to offer safer, stress-free, and empowering travel, the Pink Bus is expected to hit Kerala roads soon.
What makes the initiative stand out is its all-women workforce—from drivers and conductors to support staff—challenging long-held gender norms in the transport sector. Reserved solely for women commuters, the service aims to benefit students, working professionals, and daily commuters, particularly during peak hours.
Easily identifiable by its distinctive pink branding, the bus symbolises more than just a new transport option. Officials say the project reflects a broader vision of inclusive mobility and women’s empowerment, while also opening up employment opportunities in roles traditionally dominated by men.
The Pink Bus service will initially operate on selected routes, with expansion plans based on passenger response. Enhanced safety, a women-friendly atmosphere, and dignified commuting are at the heart of the initiative.
With this bold move, KSRTC is sending out a powerful message: Kerala’s roads—and its public spaces—are equally driven by women.
