Thiruvananthapuram: Former Kerala Chief Minister and senior CPI(M) leader V.S. Achuthanandan was admitted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday morning after experiencing physical discomfort. Doctors later confirmed that the 101-year-old veteran had suffered a mild heart attack. Medical officials have stated that his condition is currently stable and under close observation.
Achuthanandan, a towering figure in Kerala politics and one of the founding members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has been living a quiet, retired life in recent years. His long and impactful political journey includes serving as Kerala’s Chief Minister from 2006 to 2011, and as Leader of the Opposition during 1992–1996, 2001–2006, and 2011–2016. He also served three terms as the CPI(M) State Secretary.
