Coimbatore: From November 1, tourists heading to the misty hill station of Valparai will need to secure an e-pass before entry, following a new directive from the Coimbatore District Collector.
The move comes as Valparai witnesses a sharp rise in tourist inflow, leading to frequent traffic congestion and growing environmental concerns. Nearby destinations like Kodaikanal and the Nilgiris have already implemented similar systems to manage the tourist rush.
The decision also follows a Madras High Court order calling for strict visitor regulation in Valparai—part of the ecologically sensitive Western Ghats—to safeguard its delicate natural balance.
Officials emphasized that the e-pass system aims to promote sustainable tourism, protecting Valparai’s lush tea estates, serene forests, and pristine biodiversity while ensuring a smoother experience for travelers.
