Twin Cyclonic Systems Set to Drench Kerala; Yellow Alert Issued in Seven Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is bracing for a spell of intense rainfall over the next five days as twin cyclonic circulations converge to influence the state’s weather, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has cautioned. The downpours are expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, prompting officials to call for heightened public vigilance.

One system is currently swirling over the Mannar Gulf, while the second is active at higher altitudes over coastal Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh. Together, these systems are forecast to fuel widespread rain across Kerala in the coming days.

The IMD has predicted heavy showers today and tomorrow (Tuesday and Wednesday). As a precaution, a yellow alert has been sounded in seven districts—Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad for today. Tomorrow, the alert will shift to Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram.

Adding to the caution, the weather office has warned of gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph during the spell.
