Says countries including China may send warships with the US amid tensions with Iran
Washington: Former US President Donald Trump has said he expects several countries, including China, to work with the United States to ensure that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and secure.
Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump expressed confidence that the strategic waterway would soon be reopened and kept safe. He claimed that many nations affected by attempts by Iran to close the strait would join the US in sending warships to the region.
According to Trump, the disruption in the Strait of Hormuz has created difficulties for several countries that depend on the route for global energy supplies and trade. He said nations such as China, France, Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom could send naval vessels to help ensure that the shipping lane remains open and secure.
Trump also claimed that Iran’s military capability had been significantly weakened but warned that the country could still launch drones or deploy short-range missiles in the area.
He added that the United States would continue its military operations and take action against Iranian boats and vessels if necessary. Trump said the US was determined to ensure that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, safe and free for international navigation.
