NATO intercepts Iranian missile over Turkish airspace
Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that the ongoing conflict involving Iran could end soon, asserting that the United States is “far ahead” of its initial timeline in the military campaign.
Speaking from Florida, Trump said the U.S. had already gained a decisive advantage in the conflict. “We’ve already won the war, but we haven’t won enough yet,” he said, adding that U.S. forces were targeting key Iranian positions rapidly.
“We’re knocking them out. We know where they all are. We’re knocking them out very quickly. We’re ahead of our initial timeline by a lot,” Trump said while giving an update on the situation.
Earlier on Monday, while addressing House Republicans, Trump warned that Iran had planned attacks across the Middle East and against Israel. According to him, such attacks could have resulted in the destruction of Israel if they had not been prevented.
The developments came as Israel launched a new wave of large-scale strikes against Iran, intensifying the conflict on Monday.
Meanwhile, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) confirmed that one of its air defence systems intercepted an Iranian ballistic missile after it entered the airspace of Turkey. Turkey’s defence ministry said air defences in the eastern Mediterranean were activated immediately after the missile crossed into its airspace.
The ministry added that Turkey would take all necessary measures to protect its territory and security without hesitation. However, Iran denied launching any missile toward Turkey last week.
In a significant political development, Iran has elected Mojtaba Khamenei as its new supreme leader. The appointment came more than a week after the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed in an airstrike during the conflict.
The latest developments indicate that tensions in the Middle East remain high, even as global powers monitor the situation closely.
