The KSRTC has unveiled two innovative services — ‘Stop on Demand’ and ‘Dynamic Pricing’ — aimed at enhancing convenience and affordability in public transport. The initiatives were inaugurated by Kerala Legislative Assembly Speaker A N Shamseer. With the ‘Stop on Demand’ facility, passengers can now board or alight at locations of their choice, even if they are not designated bus stops, by paying an additional ₹20. The service is available on Fast, Super Fast, Deluxe and Express buses. Commuters must specify their boarding point at the time of booking and can track the bus in real time through the Chalo app. Officials clarified that buses will adhere strictly to schedule and will not wait for late passengers. Notably, this is the first such initiative in India’s public transport sector.
Adding a smart pricing edge, KSRTC has also introduced ‘Dynamic Pricing,’ primarily on interstate routes. If seat occupancy remains below 50 percent 24 hours before departure, fares will be reduced to attract more passengers. Conversely, as demand rises, ticket prices may increase — capped at a maximum of 50 percent. The revised fare system applies to both online and counter bookings. The move is seen as a balanced and transparent alternative to steep seasonal fare hikes often witnessed in private bus services, offering passengers greater flexibility and value for money.
