Alappuzha: In a deeply disturbing case of suspected honour killing, a 28-year-old woman, Angel Jasmine, was strangled to death by her father in Omanapuzha, Alappuzha, following a heated argument over her late-night outings. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
The accused, Francis (alias Josemon), allegedly used a towel to kill his daughter after a family dispute turned violent. Initially claimed to be a natural death, the truth surfaced only after a post-mortem examination revealed strangulation marks, prompting the police to launch a detailed investigation. Francis later confessed to the murder, officials confirmed.
Angel, a nurse by profession, had been living with her parents for the past six months following a separation from her husband. According to locals, her regular nighttime outings had become a point of tension at home, leading to frequent confrontations.
In a chilling twist, police say Angel’s mother, Jessy, actively assisted in the murder by holding her daughter’s hands during the act. She, along with Angel’s uncle, who is accused of helping conceal evidence, has been taken into custody.
The victim’s body was discovered at the family home on Wednesday morning and later moved to a local hospital. Autopsy results confirmed death by strangulation, sealing the case as premeditated homicide. The Mannancherry police have questioned all family members and are continuing their investigation.
The horrific crime has ignited public outrage and brought attention to the dark realities of domestic abuse and patriarchal control. Authorities say additional charges may be filed as the probe deepens.
