A massive flash flood in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand has swept away an entire village, leaving at least 4 people dead and 60 others missing. The deluge, triggered by a sudden surge in the Ghirt Ganga river, has caused widespread devastation, with shocking visuals emerging from the scene.
The worst-hit, Dharali village, witnessed homes, buildings, and over 50 hotels vanish in moments as the raging waters tore through the area. Eyewitnesses described the flood as a wall of water, giving residents no time to escape.
Rescue operations are in full swing, with the NDRF and local authorities battling difficult terrain to search for the missing and provide relief. The district administration has declared the situation extremely critical.
Relentless monsoon rains over the past few days have pushed rivers to the brink across Uttarakhand, setting the stage for this catastrophe. Officials have issued urgent warnings to residents, particularly those near rivers, to move to safer zones immediately.
The Uttarkashi Police confirmed that the Khir Ganga river near Harsil has reached dangerous water levels, and more damage is feared. The scale of destruction is still being assessed, and the death toll is expected to rise as search efforts continue.
Authorities are urging caution and preparedness as the region remains on high alert for further rainfall and flooding.
