Thrissur Pooram 2025 Sets the Sky Ablaze with Color and Rhythm: A Dazzling Display of Kerala’s Cultural Majesty

Thrissur – In a spectacular celebration of tradition and grandeur, the 2025 edition of Thrissur Pooram unfolded with unmatched brilliance as tens of thousands gathered to witness the crowning moments of Kerala’s most iconic temple festival. From the thunderous beats of Elanjithara Melam to the kaleidoscopic wonder of Kudamattam (umbrella exchange), the heart of Thrissur city pulsed with festive energy and cultural pride.

The centerpiece of the Pooram — the Kudamattam — mesmerized spectators as ornately decorated parasols were exchanged between the Paramekkavu and Thiruvambady temple teams in rapid succession, filling the skies above Thekkinkadu Maidan with a riot of colors. Braving the scorching summer sun, devotees and tourists stood in awe as the vibrant spectacle unfolded.

Earlier in the day, Paramekkavu Bhagavathy entered through the eastern gate of the Vadakkunnathan Temple, marking the beginning of the famed Elanjithara Melam. Under the direction of legendary percussionist Kizhakkoottu Aniyan Marar, the performance elevated the crowd’s spirit to a frenzy of rhythm and devotion.

Simultaneously, on the northern side of the temple, Thiruvambady’s Panchari Melam, led by Cheranelloor Sankarankutty Marar, echoed with equal intensity. Adding to the majestic atmosphere was the stately presence of Thiruvambady Chandrasekharan, the lead elephant.

In a moment of symbolic grandeur, Guruvayur Nandan, celebrated as Asia’s heaviest and most serene elephant, carried the idol of Paramekkavu Bhagavathy during the grand procession of 15 caparisoned elephants, accompanied by booming Chenda drums and joyous cheers.

The Pooram celebrations began at dawn with the arrival of Kanimangalam Sastha, followed by eight other deities including Chembukkavu Bhagavathy, Panamukkampilly Sastha, Laloor, Karamukku, Choorakottukavu, Ayyanthole, and Neythalakavu Bhagavathys, all assembling at the temple to mark the grand convergence.

With its unmatched blend of color, music, tradition, and spiritual fervor, Thrissur Pooram 2025 once again proved why it stands as the ‘Mother of All Poorams’, proudly carrying forward Kerala’s living heritage in all its resplendent glory.
