Thrissur Pooram 2025: Kerala Vows Spectacular Fireworks Despite Regulatory Hurdles

Thrissur, Kerala — The Kerala government has assured that the 2025 Thrissur Pooram will take place with its full traditional grandeur, including the much-awaited fireworks display, despite new central government regulations that impose stricter safety guidelines.

Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Tourism, Suresh Gopi, affirmed that efforts are ongoing to make the fireworks guidelines more practical and people-friendly while ensuring public safety. He stressed the importance of protecting the cultural essence of the iconic festival.

However, the central government’s recent directives, including a requirement for a 200-meter distance between fireworks storage and display areas, have raised serious concerns among state officials and festival organizers. Revenue Minister K. Rajan criticized the rules as unrealistic and an obstacle to maintaining the festival’s traditions.

In response, Minister Rajan has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting amendments to the guidelines to allow for the seamless continuation of the fireworks, which are a central attraction of the Pooram.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has also directed the preparation of a detailed security plan for the festival. This includes enhanced medical support, fire safety measures, and emergency preparedness to ensure the safety of attendees.

Despite the regulatory challenges, the state government remains firm in its commitment to uphold the cultural and spiritual significance of Thrissur Pooram, promising an event that celebrates Kerala’s heritage with both tradition and safety.
