Thrissur Flood Woes to Be Tackled with Expert Intervention: High-Level Team Begins Groundwork on Minister Suresh Gopi’s Initiative

Thrissur: In a determined effort to resolve the chronic urban flooding in Thrissur city, an expert-led high-level meeting was held following a directive from Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi. The initiative is spearheaded by Dr. K.G. Padmakumar, noted agricultural scientist and former member of the M.S. Swaminathan Committee.

The meeting, hosted at the Gandhinagar Residents’ Association Hall, brought together residents’ association representatives, municipal councillors, and technical experts to discuss lasting solutions. Rajesh Nair, representing the MP’s office, chaired the session.

Among the notable participants were councillors Gopan Chennithala, Jayan Thomas, N. Prasad, Poornima Suresh, Radhika N.V., and Niji K.G., along with community leaders and engineers. They contributed insights based on ground realities and previous challenges faced by residents.

Dr. Padmakumar assured that all inputs from the meeting will be meticulously analyzed, and the expert team will soon visit flood-prone areas to assess the situation firsthand.

He further stated that a detailed report with recommendations will be submitted without delay, aiming to bring much-needed relief to the flood-hit city and pave the way for long-term resilience planning.
