The first phase will cover a distance of 31 kilometers, stretching from Pappanamcode to Vizhinjam, with 27 stations along the route. According to initial reports, the project will be implemented by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL).
The proposed stations include Plamoodu, Pattom, Murinjapalam, Medical College, Ulloor, Pongummoodu, Sreekariyam, Pangappara, Gurumandiram, Kariavattom, Technopark Phase I, Phase III, Kulathoor, Technopark Phase II, Akkulam Lake, Kochu Veli, Venpalavattom, Chacka, Airport, and Eenchakkal.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced on Facebook that the state government has approved the alignment for the first phase of the Thiruvananthapuram Metro Rail project — a project expected to transform the face of the state capital. The approved route will connect key locations including all three phases of Technopark, the international airport, Thampanoor bus stand, railway station, Secretariat, and Medical College.
The metro line, spanning 31 kilometers from Pappanamcode to Eenchakkal via Killippalam, Palayam, Sreekariyam, Kazhakoottam, Technopark, Kochu Veli, and the Airport, will feature 27 stations in total. Kazhakoottam, Technopark, and Kariavattom will serve as major interchange stations.
As part of the metro preparatory works, KMRL has already been entrusted with the construction of flyovers at Sreekariyam, Ulloor, and Pattom — with the Sreekariyam flyover progressing rapidly. Once operational, the Thiruvananthapuram Metro project is expected to give a major boost to the city’s infrastructure and overall development.
