Kozhikode: The Thamarassery Ghat continues to remain under strict traffic control after a massive landslide at the ninth hairpin bend viewpoint. According to Kozhikode District Collector, vehicle movement will be completely halted during heavy rain, while only light vehicles will be permitted in a single line when the weather eases. Heavy vehicles are banned until further notice.
Although authorities have cleared rocks, mud, and uprooted trees from the stretch, heavy traffic to and from Wayanad must continue to take alternate routes via Kuttyadi, Naduvannur Ghat, and Kannur road.
Revenue Minister K. Rajan assured that a long-term solution is being worked out for the landslide-prone route. He noted that the collapse, from a height of nearly 80 feet, may have been triggered by soil piping, raising safety concerns. The minister emphasized that allowing heavy vehicles on the ghat now is risky until the slope and roadbed are thoroughly examined.
The landslide on Wednesday night had left the road completely blocked, making even pedestrian passage impossible.
