India has seen a surge in bomb threats targeting both domestic and international flights in the past week, affecting major airlines like IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara, and Akasa Air. Approximately 70 such threats have been reported, causing significant disruptions. Over 10 flights were grounded or diverted in a span of 48 hours, prompting aviation security agencies to launch counter-terrorism drills across airports.
Several flights, including those of Akasa Air, IndiGo, and Air India, were forced to land at different airports due to these threats. For example, an Akasa Air flight from Delhi to Bengaluru was diverted back to Delhi, and an Air India flight from New Delhi to Chicago was forced to land in Canada. Some threats were found to be hoaxes, but authorities remain vigilant, working to trace the origin of these messages, which include threats posted on social media from both domestic and international locations.
