New Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition filed by Manjusha, the wife of former Kannur Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu, seeking a CBI investigation into his mysterious death. The bench, comprising Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and K. Vinod Chandran, ruled that not every case can be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The court observed that the ongoing investigation already includes charges of abetment to suicide and that the probe by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is in its final stages. Hence, there is no need for CBI intervention at this stage, the court said.
Manjusha had argued that she lacked faith in the state police investigation and demanded a transfer of the case to the CBI. However, the Supreme Court did not accept her plea. Earlier, the Kerala High Court had also dismissed a similar request for a CBI inquiry.
In connection with Naveen Babu’s death, the police have registered a case against CPM leader P.P. Divya on charges of abetment to suicide.
