Thiruvananthapuram: In a major relief for households ahead of Onam, the Kerala government has announced that through Supplyco’s market intervention, every ration card holder—BPL or APL—will be eligible to buy 20 kg of rice at just ₹25, along with subsidized essentials through mobile Maveli stores. From August 26 to September 4, free Onam kits containing 15 key items including sugar, coconut oil, pulses, cashews, ghee, tea, payasam mix, and spices will be distributed to Antyodaya and Annapurna card holders, while Onam markets kick off on August 25 with further cuts in coconut oil prices expected. Supplyco, which recorded sales of ₹168 crore from 32 lakh customers last month and over ₹200 crore this month from 21 lakh families, is targeting ₹300 crore in festive sales this season, with more than 50 lakh families expected to benefit.
