Summer Heat: Kerala Reschedules Working Hours for Labourers

Amid rising temperatures, the Kerala government has rescheduled working hours for labourers exposed to extreme heat. The revised schedule, effective until May 10, mandates an eight-hour work shift between 7 AM and 7 PM, with a compulsory break from 12 PM to 3 PM to prevent heat-related illnesses. Labour Commissioner Safna Nasarudeen announced that strict monitoring teams will oversee compliance, particularly in construction and roadwork sectors. However, regions above 3,000 feet from sea level, where heat risks are minimal, are exempt from this directive. The move aims to protect workers from heatstroke and ensure their safety during peak summer months.
