Thiruvananthapuram: The State Drugs Control Department has banned the distribution and sale of certain batches of medicines after they were found to be of substandard quality during routine testing conducted in March.
According to officials, the affected medicines failed to meet quality standards in tests carried out at state-run drug testing laboratories. In response, the State Drugs Controller has directed traders, distributors, and hospitals to immediately stop using these medicines.
Authorities have also advised all stockists to return the identified batches to the respective suppliers without delay. Additionally, they have been instructed to inform the concerned district drug control authorities about the stock details to ensure proper monitoring and recall.
The department has released details of the medicines, including their names, manufacturers, batch numbers, and expiry dates, to facilitate identification and withdrawal from circulation.
Officials said the move is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and efficacy of medicines available in the market and to protect public health. Further action is expected against manufacturers found responsible for producing substandard drugs.
