Stale Meals Meant for Vande Bharat Trains Seized in Kochi; Unlicensed Catering Unit Busted Over Shocking Hygiene Violations

Kochi: In a major health and safety breach, officials have seized stale and foul-smelling food prepared for passengers aboard Vande Bharat and other trains. The raid took place at an unlicensed catering facility operating under the name ‘Brindhavan Food Production’ in Kochi’s Kadavanthra area.

The seized items included spoiled eggs, sambar, and chapatis stored in unhygienic conditions, reportedly attracting flies. Shockingly, food packets were found bearing official Vande Bharat stickers, indicating they were ready for distribution on premium trains.

Authorities revealed that the catering unit had been functioning without a valid license and was previously fined ₹10,000 for improper waste disposal. The kitchen was run by migrant workers, and their accommodation was also flagged for poor sanitation.

Local complaints triggered the inspection, which has now raised serious concerns about the safety and quality of food served on Indian trains. Authorities have launched further action against the facility as investigations continue.
