Kochi: Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko was arrested by Kerala Police on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in connection with a drug use case, following a dramatic series of events that began with him fleeing a hotel in Kochi during a police raid.
The arrest came after a four-hour interrogation at the Ernakulam North Police Station, where Chacko reportedly confessed to using narcotics, including ganja and methamphetamine.
The incident dates back to April 16, when the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) conducted a raid at a Kochi hotel, prompting the actor to flee the scene. Chacko later claimed he mistook the officers for gangsters and ran away out of fear.
Police have charged the actor under Sections 27 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, for drug consumption and criminal conspiracy. A medical examination and further legal steps are underway.
Adding to the controversy, the arrest comes just days after actress Vincy Aloshious accused Chacko of inappropriate behavior on a film set, allegedly while under the influence. She has filed complaints with both the Film Chamber and AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists).
Notably, Shine Tom Chacko had previously been entangled in a similar case in 2015, but was acquitted earlier this year. The actor is best known for his performances in popular films like “Ithihasa” and “Dasara.”
This latest arrest has reignited discussions around substance abuse in the film industry, with the spotlight now firmly on Chacko and those associated with him.
