SFI Launches Statewide Class Boycott Tomorrow Against ‘Saffronisation’ of Higher Education; Major Protests Planned Across Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has called for a statewide class boycott on Thursday, escalating its protest against what it terms as systematic efforts to saffronise Kerala’s higher education sector. The student body is also set to hold massive protest marches to central government offices in all district headquarters.

SFI State President M. Shivaprasad stated that the boycott aims to strengthen opposition to the Governor’s alleged moves to erode the autonomy of universities, warning that the higher education system in the state is under serious threat from political interference.

The agitation also comes in response to the police remand of 30 SFI members, including the organisation’s State Secretary, during recent demonstrations. The arrests have sparked widespread outrage among students and intensified calls for action.

Earlier this week, SFI held high-impact protest marches to the offices of Kerala, MG, Calicut, and Kannur universities, accusing authorities of yielding to political pressure and compromising academic independence.

Calling on students to join the resistance, SFI declared that this is not just a protest but a crucial battle to safeguard the future of education in Kerala. “We will not stay silent as attempts are made to politically colour and control our universities,” the statement read.

The protest marks one of the most assertive student-led movements in recent times, with observers expecting large-scale participation and significant public attention.
