Security Tightened in Thiruvananthapuram Ahead of PM Modi’s Visit

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala capital has been placed under a tight security blanket in anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival for the inauguration of the Vizhinjam International Seaport. The PM is scheduled to land in Thiruvananthapuram tonight and will attend the dedication ceremony at the seaport site on Friday morning.

Multiple central and state agencies, including the Special Protection Group (SPG), Kerala Police, and intelligence units, are coordinating security arrangements. Over 2,000 police personnel have been deployed across key locations, including Raj Bhavan, where the Prime Minister will stay, the Vizhinjam port premises, and en route travel points.

Security checks have been intensified at airports, railway stations, and sensitive public areas. Coastal police and surveillance teams are on high alert, and drone monitoring is being used for aerial surveillance near the Vizhinjam coast.

Traffic restrictions and diversions have also been announced for Friday morning to facilitate the PM’s smooth travel from the helipad to the port. Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with security measures and avoid unnecessary travel near the port area.

The Prime Minister is expected to depart by noon after completing the formal inauguration. The event marks a major milestone for Kerala as the Vizhinjam port is touted to become a key transshipment hub in South Asia.
