New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed a CBI-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate claims that animal fat was allegedly used in the preparation of Tirupati Laddus, the sacred prasadam at the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple. The allegations have stirred concerns among millions of devotees who revere the laddu as a holy offering.
A bench led by Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan emphasized that the court will not be drawn into political disputes, making it clear that the issue requires a serious and unbiased investigation. The court acknowledged the religious sensitivity of the claims, urging a thorough probe to preserve the sanctity of the prasadam.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has strongly refuted the allegations, maintaining that the laddus are prepared following age-old traditions. Despite this, the court found the allegations substantial enough to warrant a CBI-monitored investigation, ensuring transparency and accountability in the process.
This probe aims to resolve the controversy and restore the faith of devotees in the purity of the Tirupati Laddu, a symbol of devotion for millions.
