The 2026 calendar released by Lok Bhavan has drawn public attention with the inclusion of a portrait of Hindu Mahasabha leader V.D. Savarkar among a distinguished lineup of national and regional icons. Savarkar’s image appears on the February page of the calendar, alongside portraits of legendary freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad and India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. The central and most prominent image on the February page is that of former President K.R. Narayanan.
Designed as a tribute to India’s rich historical and cultural legacy, the calendar brings together eminent personalities from Kerala and beyond, spanning literature, cinema, social reform, culture and politics. Among those featured are E.M.S. Namboodiripad, Oduvil Unnikrishnan, Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri, Aranmula Ponnamma, Lalithambika Antharjanam, KPAC Lalitha, Mani Madhava Chakyar, O. N. V. Kurup, Mannath Padmanabhan, Sugathakumari, Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, Bharat Gopy and Prem Nazir.
By presenting such a diverse gallery of influential figures, the Lok Bhavan calendar seeks to reflect the pluralistic cultural and historical heritage of Kerala and India.
