Salaries of Private Hospital Employees to Increase; Government Notification Within a Month

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government will issue a notification within one month revising the wages of employees working in private hospitals. The proposed revision recommends an increase of up to 60 percent over the existing pay structure.

Labour Minister V. Sivankutty gave the directive to notify the wage revision within a month during a meeting of the Industrial Relations Committee of private hospitals held on Saturday. The last wage revision for private hospital employees was carried out in 2013.

According to the Labour Department, the current wages are inadequate given present-day conditions. To address this, the government constituted a committee in October 2023, which conducted evidence collection and consultations. While the new wage recommendations prepared by the Labour Department were accepted by trade unions, management representatives had initially opposed the proposal.

The minister clarified that the revised wage structure would not impose an additional financial burden on hospitals. He emphasized that ensuring better wages for workers is the government’s responsibility and reiterated the commitment to improving the livelihoods of private hospital employees.
