Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio has introduced JioStar, an innovative OTT platform born from the merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. The $8.5 billion venture unites Reliance’s Viacom18 and Disney Star, with Reliance holding a 46.82% stake, Disney owning 36.84%, and other stakeholders holding the remainder. The platform, chaired by Nita Ambani, signals a significant shift in India’s entertainment industry.
JioStar offers budget-friendly subscription packages, starting at ₹15 per month for Disney Kids content. The Hindi Starter Pack, priced at ₹59 per month, includes popular channels like Star Plus and Star Sports. HD plans begin at ₹88 per month, featuring multilingual options to cater to India’s diverse audience.
This collaboration combines Disney’s vast content offerings with Jio’s extensive digital reach, poised to disrupt traditional media by offering affordable, high-quality entertainment and sports content.
