Following the Red Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) due to intense rainfall, the district administrations of Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram have declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
The decision was taken as a precautionary measure in view of the continuing heavy downpour across several parts of the state.
In Malappuram, the District Collector announced that all schools, colleges, professional institutions, Anganwadis, madrasas, and tuition centers will remain closed tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Palakkad District Collector clarified that the holiday will not apply to residential schools, colleges, or Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.
In Idukki, all educational institutions, including professional colleges, have also been directed to remain closed.
The Collectors stated that pre-scheduled examinations and interviews will be conducted as planned and will not be postponed. The Idukki District Collector further instructed educational authorities to make up for the lost class hours through online sessions or alternative arrangements.
The precautionary closure applies to all types of institutions — including nurseries, CBSE and ICSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, and Anganwadis — across the three affected districts.
With heavy rainfall expected to continue over the next 24 hours, authorities have urged residents to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel in hilly and flood-prone areas.
